The Labour Party has put up an LGBTIQ+ flag at their headquarters in Hamrun to commemorate the first day of pride month.

This version of the LGBTIQ+ flag was revealed last year and it includes the symbol representing intersex people. The Chief Executive of PL, Randolph De Battista, said that this progressive flag sends an inclusive message.

PL said that it wants to continue promoting the importance of equality for all.

“We should be proud that today Malta is a leader when it comes to LGBTIQ+ rights, but we should not rely on this success. We must continue to work every day to fight prejudices and ensure that everyone feels part of an inclusive Maltese society,” De Battista said.

Through its statement, PL also reminded people about how Malta was the first European country to pass a law in 2015, which prohibits treatment or surgical intervention on intersex children without their consent.
