Gejtu Vella attended the former Polytechnic were he successfully completed a course in Hotel Management and Food Preparation. He worked in the hotel industry for ten years, following which he joined the trade union movement.
In the Union Haddiema Maqghudin, Gejtu climbed the career ladder from junior secretary to Secretary General over a span of twenty-five years. Gejtu left the trade union sector in 2011 and ventured in providing best practice industrial relations, setting up the consultancy firm People at Work.
Gejtu is a member of the good governance board of the Hamrun Spartans FC and has been an Hon. President of the St Joseph Band Club Hamrun since May 2004. Gejtu is a non-executive Director of JD Operations Ltd. In 2011, he was conferred the Order of Merit by the Emeritus President of the Republic, his Excellency George Abela.
