A construction worker has died after falling four storeys at a site he was working at in Gozo on Wednesday.

Police told The Malta Independent that the worker had been working on a site in Triq Damasku in Munxar when, at around 11:30am, he fell a height of four storeys.

The worker was certified as dead at the scene by a medical team.

He was identified as being a 29-year-old man, Luca Curmi, from Munxar.

Curmi worked with Heritage Malta, and the government agency sent its condolences to his loved ones, describing him as "a hard-working and outgoing employee, always ready to assist and give a helping hand to his colleagues."

Curmi, who was off duty at the time, worked in Heritage Malta's Manufacturing and Upkeep section.

A magisterial inquiry has been launched and is being led by duty magistrate Bridgette Sultana.

Police investigations are also ongoing, while the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) said that it was investigating the death as well.

This is the second fatal construction site accident this week, after a 57-year-old man from Birkirkara died as he fell five storeys at a construction site he was working on in Qormi.
