GoTo rental car service closing down in Malta

Sunday, 25 September 2022, 14:53 Last update: about 3 years ago

GoTo sent an email out to its customers on Sunday revealing that it will be closing its services in Malta on 30 September 2022.

GoTo is a rental service company where customers can pay a fee to rent a car or a moped to travel short distances. Although it ended its services in Malta, it remains present in Germany, Israel and Spain.

GoTo arrived on the island in 2018 and over the course of its existence, the cars and mopeds covered more than 10,000,000 km with over 1,000,000 shared rides.

The company expressed its sadness about this decision, but it said that it had no other option.

This news was released after a 17-year-old girl crashed one of GoTo's cars into a wall with a 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl inside. Currently the 21-year-old is in critical condition, whilst the 19-year-old is grievously hurt.

There is no indication that this event had anything to do with GoTo stopping its service in Malta.

GoTo assured customers that any recurring fees will be suspended at the end of the month and they asked customers to settle any pending balances as soon as possible.
