A woman has died after she was hit by a motorbike in Birkirkara on Friday, the police said.

The accident took place in Valley Road at noon.

The woman, aged 72, of Naxxar, was hit by a Honda ridden by a 22-year-old man from Mosta.

The bike then careened into a Renault, which was being driven by a 44-year-old woman of Xewkija.

The pedestrian was taken to Mater Dei Hospital with serious injuries, but police said later in the day that she had died.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
