In a pre-budget meeting with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA), Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that in the coming weeks excavation works for the new ITS campus are going to begin in Smart City.

Throughout the summer months, as per an agreement reached by the government ITS was set out to be another capital project which “comes at perfect timing as Malta has reached 90% of the tourism seat load factor of pre pandemic levels,” Abela said.

The project was approved by the Planning Authority some weeks ago.

As Malta is expected to attract over two million tourists, Abela stressed the importance of investing in the tourism sector as a key part of the country’s economy. This will help improve the touristic value which Malta has to offer as well as improving the quality of work within the sector.

“Post pandemic and now throughout a war, we are constantly hearing that we need more workers in this field and this is a statement to how good our economy is growing,” Abela said.

Abela continued to state that while other countries are still fixated on how to lower their energy bills, Malta is ahead and working on improving the touristic experience it can offer.
