56 new recruits have joined the police force as constables, after concluding their training course, a government statement read.
The training course, that took 6 months in the Disciplined Forces Academy, included physical and academic training.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri spoke, and said that the police must be a part of the community, not only to protect the vulnerable, but to be conscious of the needs of society.
He said that the police force experienced a lot of change recently. "Change that continued to strengthen the good over the years, and continued to change the force to face modern challenges."
He said that the crime rate has reduced thanks to the work of police officers.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa said that everything police officers do, and the way they act must, first and foremost, ensure the common good.
