Government planning to build new Gozo courthouse

Friday, 18 November 2022, 17:35 Last update: about 2 years ago

The government has opened a Preliminary Market Consultation for the building of a new courthouse in Gozo.

Announced in a joint statement by the Justice Ministry and the Ministry for Gozo, the call – which is being run by the Court Services Agency – is for proposals and information about properties, both in the form of land or in the form of buildings, in Rabat, Gozo, or the surrounding areas which can be converted into a modern courthouse.

The ministries said that cases at Gozo’s Courts had in recent years increased and the functions and operations of the courts has become more complex, thereby making it evident that the existing building is no longer adequate to hold the courthouse.

Justice Minister Jonathan Attard said that this is an important step in order to identify a new and more adept site to host Gozo’s law courts.

Any new building, he said, must offer the best resources for both lawyers and those who need the services of the courts, and must also incorporate a state of the art court registry.

Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri encouraged the public, entities, organisations, and anyone interested in participating in the public consultation to do so.

Submissions should be made online through the ePPS system, with the deadline being 6 January 2023 at 9:30am.

Late submissions will not be considered.
