Leading Spanish Contemporary artist Cristóbal Gabarrón has been invited by the Modern and Contemporary Art section of  the Department of Art and Art History (University of Malta) to give a talk to students and the general public on how his art explores Mediterranean identity and expands upon this theme.

It will be held on Friday 9th December at 4.15pm at Gateway Hall C, University of Malta.
This talk forms part of the Changing Gear events programme. Changing Gear is a research project led by Prof Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci which centres on the Modern and Contemporary art of the Mediterranean region.
Gabarrón (b. 1945) is a prolific artist who has received commissions from global institutions and whose works have been shown in major museums. He established the Gabarrón Foundation in 1992, as well as the Gabarrón Museum in Mula, Spain.

Gabarrón's work is currently being exhibited in Valletta at Spazju Kreattiv. The exhibition - Gabarrón: The Colours of Hope - showcases a number of works that celebrate the values and sustainability goals of the United Nations. The exhibition is curated by Rupert Cefai.
The talk is being organised by Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci, who heads the Modern and Contemporary art section and is also the coordinator for the Fine Arts programme within the same Department, and Dr Nikki Petroni, Project Manager of Changing Gear and the APS Mdina Biennale 2023.
