An earthquake struck to the south of Malta earlier on Wednesday, a graphic on the Seismic Monitoring & Research Group of the University of Malta shows.
The tremor, at 4.5 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 5:22 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
The Volcano Discovery website reported that its monitoring service identified a second report from the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7.
Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.5, and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.6.
