Tuesday, 24 January 2023, 18:47 Last update: about 2 years ago

There were 102 pending jury cases and 119 accused defendants still awaiting trial, Justice Minister Jonathan Attard said on Tuesday.

The minister was responding to a Parliamentary question by PN MP Karol Aquilina

The minister said that 13 juries have been appointed, judging a total of 16 defendants. 7 juries have recently moved forward and are awaiting trial dates.

82 pending juries (totaling 96 accused individuals) cannot proceed for various reasons, with delays blamed on Constitutional procedures, the awaiting of other trials, cases being in the preliminary stages, or the awaiting of psychiatric reports.
