The labour government is a deceptive one, PN Leader Bernard Grech said on Sunday.
Addressing a political activity, Grech said that despite the government's allocation of €700 million for green projects, "they (the labour government) later said it is not entirely preserved only for that".
Grech said that when he was younger, under a nationalist government there was always "peace of mind" as all he had to worry about as a student was whether he had any petrol for his car to get to university or whether he was going to get good grades during his scholastic year.
"The basic things in this country are missing", he said
Grech said that currently, the country cannot provide any peace of mind to anyone as basic items such as antibiotics are out of stock, even from the state's hospital.
The PN leader said that that some people have even had to resort to the Malta Community Chest Fund to get their hands on medicines because of costs, "however this should not be the case." He added that although there is nothing wrong with asking for help from the Community Chest Fund, people should not be referring to it for basic necessities as it should be the government to safeguard and provide cures for its citizens.
Additionally, he said that some patients who are awaiting operations "are told after three to four hours that they can leave because all medical operating theatres are occupied."
On national security, Grech said that the lack of security in Malta is not the police's fault, but rather the government's.
Mentioning the police force, he said that it is in a very desperate state considering that some have left just two years before completing their 25 years of service, before receiving their pension.
"I am going to be frank on the security of this country and say that it is not police's fault, but the fault of those leading, giving a sense of impunity as if you know a minister you can also request the removal of a judgement from the court system so that it doesn't show", he said.
He added that whoever "has the money and is a criminal under this government can have peace of mind assured" but "what about those fair and honest citizens who respect the law?"
Grech explained that this where the PN comes in "to work not only to assure the best for the country, but also to provide peace of mind in the solutions it provides".
"Many are finding it hard to view politics as hopeful, since the government is not keeping its promises" he said.
Mentioning Mosta, where there are currently ongoing works, Grech said that the labour government first "starts excavations, then holds consultations and ignores people's complaints".
He said that people's complaints should not be ignored and that a consultation should have been held before the start of any works.
"Decisions should be taken in the best interest of the nation, several projects should happen, but not without a plan, and they have to be sustainable".
To conclude, referring to the proposed abortion bill, he said that peace of mind should not only be present for those "currently living" but also for future generations, those who are yet to be born "as we value the unborn child together with their mother, but never at the cost of any life".
