The Malta Police Union has withdrawn its directive regarding voyages to Gozo after the system was amended.

The Executive Committee of the Malta Police Union had earlier in the day told its members not to purchase any ferry tickets for Gozo trips. In a statement Tuesday, the union said it was issuing this directive is valid as from Saturday. Members were not to purchase any Ferry tickets for themselves and/or Police vehicle when crossing is needed for official active duty from Malta to Gozo or vice-versa. "This is not applicable for members of the Force who use the Gozo Channel service to cross over to work to and from their residence," the union said. Since the change to the e-ticketing system Gozo Channel line implemented, Police officers have been asked to purchase the tickets themselves and then request a refund.  The Union said that this is an added burden on its members and something which should have been taken into consideration prior to the change in the ticketing system came into effect.

In a later statement, the Executive Committee said that after issuing the Directive, the system has been amended and now the system will revert back as it was prior to the introduction of the e-ticketing system, "and therefore the Malta Police Force will procure the tickets and these will be available for the members of the Force requiring to attend to Malta/Gozo as part of their ongoing duty."

"Please note that these tickets are not used to travel from home (in Gozo) to work (in Malta) but used during their duty like for the Inspector to attend a meeting in Malta or to get files or other documents or supplies with the Police Service Vehicles."
