Banner demanding Jean Paul Sofia public inquiry set up near Msida skate park

Monday, 20 March 2023, 09:35 Last update: about 2 years ago

A banner demanding “#JUSTICEFORJEANPAULSOFIA” was hung across the side of a building next to skate park Msida by friends of Sofia, asking for a public inquiry into his tragic death.

20-year-old Sofia died last December when a building under construction collapsed, and the man’s body was found by Civil Protection Department personnel many hours after the collapse.

A picture of this banner was posted on the Facebook page “Ghal Jean Paul” on Monday morning. The post said that the aim of this stunt was to ask for a public inquiry.

“This inquiry is essential so that we all find out why the life of Jean Paul Sofia, full of strength and love, was brutally cut short on December 3rd on a construction site in Kordin,” the post read.

Currently, a magisterial inquiry into Sofia’s death is ongoing. However, the PN and Sofia’s parents have argued that this is insufficient.

The PN and Sofia’s parents have been calling for a public inquiry, as it will place the construction industry under scrutiny and reveal recommendations to prevent this from happening again.
