The Nationalist Party has said that the government is planning to update the drug policy only after the PN’s insistence.

In a statement, the PN said that six weeks after the PN had announced that it would seek public consultation on the subject, the government had no other option but to take action.

The PN said it is of great satisfaction that the government has started the process on the recommendation of the PN. The party called for a serious consultation excercise.

Drug use has “exploded” in the past years, the PN said, with the police seizing 3,000 koligrammes of cocaine, worth €386 million. This shows that the drug plague has risen at an alarming rate and is breaking up individuals and families like never before.

The PN pointed out that the Minister responsible had admitted that the policy has not been updated since 2008, when the PN had been in government.
