A 72-year-old woman suffered grievous injuries after she was hit by a truck on Monday morning.

Police said that it was informed of a traffic accident in Triq Birzebbuga in Birzebbuga at around 8:40am on Monday.

Preliminary investigations on site showed that the woman had been hit by an Isuzu ELF which was being driven by a 22-year-old man who lives in Ghaxaq.

A medical team was called to the site and the victim was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment, where she was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police said that their investigations are still ongoing.
