Europa 2023: Peace – the highest value of humanity

Thursday, 4 May 2023, 12:54 Last update: about 13 months ago

The EUROPA postage stamp is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the PostEurop Association. EUROPA stamps promote philately through building awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

The EUROPA stamp theme for 2023 aims to promote the highest value of humanity - Peace. This was chosen to show solidarity with the Ukraine's postal administration and the entire Ukrainian population in the incredibly challenging circumstances brought on by Russian aggression. A contest was held to select a common design to be used by all participating countries. There were 29 designs submitted in total and the winning motif was the one proposed by Luxembourg, titled "The New Peace Symbol", created by designers Linda Bos and Runa Egilsdottir.

MaltaPost proudly participates in this noble Pan-European initiative and issues the Peace stamp on 9 May 2023.  The new stamp will be issued in a sheet of 11, with each stamp measuring 31mm x 44mm, a comb perforation 13.9 x 14.0 and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark. The sheets measure 150mm x 160mm and were produced by Printex Ltd. in the offset process. The issue consists of  38,500 stamps with a denomination of €1.50.

The new stamp will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo from Tuesday 9 May 2023.
