Closure of road near Salini leads to traffic chaos

Monday, 8 May 2023, 09:17 Last update: about 13 months ago

The closure of the road leading from Salini towards T’Alla u Ommu Hill caused traffic chaos this morning, with drivers reporting long delays.

Roadworks are taking place along part of Triq is-Salina and are expected to continue until Thursday 15 June.

Part of Triq is-Salina, from Salini Roundabout up to Triq il-Qadi, is fully closed for traffic due to network upgrades in the area.

But although road signs have been placed in the area indicating the roadworks, this has caught many drivers unawares with the result that the Kennedy Grove/Salini area was one whole traffic jam this morning.

Drivers coming from the north either had to turn back to use the Burmarrad Road, which created traffic problems there too, or else proceed to the Coast Road.

One woman even took to the popular Facebook group Are You Being Served? to share that her daughter was likely to miss her O-Level in Birkirkara due to the traffic.  She said that she had left St Paul's Bay at 7:15am, but by 8:45am was still stuck in Pembroke - when her daughter's O-Level was set to start 15 minutes later in Birkirkara.
