A teenaged woman has died in a traffic accident on the Central Link road in Attard early on Sunday, police said.

The woman, aged 17, was riding as a passenger in a Chevrolet Aveo whose driver lost control and crashed into a wall and a pole at 3am in Tumas Chetcuti Street, the police said in a statement.

The woman, who is from St Paul's Bay, died at the scene.

Another 17-year-old woman, from Attard, and the driver, a 20-year-old man from St Paul's Bay, were both taken to hospital.

The police said they suffered grievous injuries.

The girl has been identified as Kacey Sciberras, an active member of one of the religious feast communities in St Paul's Bay.

A magisterial inquiry led by Magistrate Caroli Farrugia Frendo is under way.

The woman becomes the eighth traffic victim this year, the fourth this month.
