For the third consecutive year, the Vice-President of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and the Labour Party MEP Alex Agius Saliba has been selected as a finalist for the award of the best MEP of the year, this time for his work in the field of the digital strategy and the single market. Agius Saliba is the only Maltese MEP nominated for this year.

This nomination comes just a few weeks after Agius Saliba was also selected as one of the most influential MEPs within the European Parliament. In 2020 he was also listed of as one of the top 20 MEPs by authoritative journal Politico.

For his part, MEP Agius Saliba said that he is honoured that through his work in the European Parliament, he is able to influence policies that actually have an impact on people’s lives. In the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, Dr. Agius Saliba has always sought to put the protection of interests of Maltese, Gozitan and European consumers at the forefront. During this legislature, which has now entered its last year, the Labour MEP will be remembered for his involvement in negotiations that have led to key legislation in the digital sector, the Right to Disconnect, the Common Charger, the Digital Services Act and also the Media Freedom Act.

“I was honoured to have received a vote of confidence yet again for the work that I am doing within the European Parliament, and I was selected as a finalist for this prestigious award. The nomination itself is already an acknowledgement of the work I am doing, and I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that no one is left behind. This is the social Europe that as Socialists and Democrats we believe we want to achieve.” Alex Agius Saliba said.
