Losing grasp of reality

Do you know why the hospitals concession was a dismal failure? According to Joseph Muscat, because the doctors stole coronary stents from Mater Dei to use in private hospitals.   Because they killed Karin Grech. Because they ordered a social boycott on her father Edwin.

It’s because doctors can’t stand anybody interfering with their business - healthcare.  “The hospitals have always been in the hands of the private sector,” Muscat insisted. “I’ll tell you why. Who manages the hospitals? The doctors”.

“See what they did to Mintoff when he tried to interfere in health. They called a strike and then they killed Karin Grech”. “When Louis Deguara offered to double their wages to work exclusively in the public sector, nobody took up the scheme - then they chopped his head off, because he tried to make changes”.

“There were those determined to make the initiative fail”.

There you are.  Muscat’s hospitals concession failed because of those rotten doctors.  “95% of them are conscientious and dedicated - but the others….” Muscat snidely commented to inciter-in-chief Manuel Cuschieri in his epic Smash interview.

Muscat claimed we needed the private sector to refurbish our hospitals because Malta had no money. But Labour found 450 million for Vitals and Steward.

Muscat chose Vitals to invest 200 million but didn’t bother checking whether they had any money.  The NAO did, and found Vitals’ share capital was “a paltry 1,200 euro”.

Muscat “provided waiver after waiver with respect to the requirement to secure financing, thereby perpetuating the failure that this concession came to represent”.

Those three NAO reports were absolutely damning. But according to Muscat, the reports scrutinised everything from top to bottom and “in none of those reports did he (the Auditor General) point his finger at me regarding any illegality”.  What is “collusion” then?

For Muscat, this was just “a subjective interpretation”.  The ‘mistakes’ the NAO identified were just “haste”.

Muscat falsely claimed “the NAO report removed many doubts”.  “The NAO said it clearly - these issues were discussed in cabinet”. The NAO didn’t.  “The Cabinet was only requested to endorse the transfer of the concession after authorisation had already been granted,” the NAO commented.  “Cabinet’s authorisation was not sought,” was what the NAO actually said.

“Not in just this case but in all other cases, I never got anything from anybody to buy something with”.  “If Steward got 400 million and I only got 60,000, they should take me not to Kordin but somewhere else which I shall not name out of respect to those who suffer from certain conditions”.

So why did payments (from Accutor AG) stop, Cuschieri asked? Because of COVID, was Muscat’s hilarious reply. “If there are clever investigators they should know that after about 4 months COVID struck. I neither could travel, nor go anywhere.  Like other companies it stopped operating or restricted its operations, so the agreement stopped,” he said. Accutor went bankrupt.  SpringX Media went into liquidation.

“I worked for that money,” Muscat pleaded. “In fact at one of the meetings there was the President of a particular country”. How impressive. Who could that be?

So how did they find out about your 60,000? “There were these two workers with the company who told the owner, if you don’t pay us, they blackmailed him, we will throw mud and we will go to the media.  He said, do what you like, I did nothing wrong.  What he didn’t calculate was that here in Malta there are some who pounce on a story like that and all these things came out”.

He’s lost it. “I always believed and still believe that a good boxer should be as good at absorbing punches as delivering them.  I just watched a film about George Foreman”.

On Egrant:  “They can reopen the inquiry as much as they like, I have no problem, I challenge them, do what you like, reopen it but this time when nothing is found, I will sue you for damages.  We are not playing bingo….. They are turning the judiciary into an army, they politicise it. I warn those who are doing these things, I will sue you, not for me, for charity”. The man who rented his own car to the state for 7,000 euro wants to sue for charity.

“If they want to crucify me like they did to Mintoff it would be my honour, but I don’t deserve as much.  Like St Peter, I will ask them to crucify me head down.  These people of the establishment, this is freemasonry, huge freemasonry”.

“They called Mintoff violent, and then wept for him. They depicted Karmenu as mentally incompetent although he always acted professionally.  They painted Alfred Sant as talking to himself but now they consider Sant a genius.  They will do the same to Robert…..This is the road and destiny of every PL leader because we are not the party of the establishment, we are the party of the people………Mintoff was the son of a cook, Alfred the son of a civil servant. I am the son of a salesman”.

“They want to put us through another Calvary, another martyrdom - but like a good boxer, I will absorb all the punches and then knock them out”.

“I am always there for the PL….. we are the underdog, we must fight against all the freemasonry, the establishment, all other interests….”.

“I’ll come back”, he pleaded with Manuel Cuschieri. This is the pitiful state Muscat has come to - begging Cuschieri for more airtime to humiliate himself with even wackier rants on Smash TV - because not even Labour will touch him now.
