Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that 112 irregular migrants arrived in Malta between the beginning of 2023 and 19 June.
Camilleri was responding to a parliamentary question put forward by PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami, who asked for the number of irregular migrants that arrived in Malta from 1 January 2023 until the day on which this parliamentary question is answered.
Camilleri added that, although it has been quite a short amount of time, the Maltese authorities were already able to send 26 people back to their country of origin after they did not qualify for asylum or they opted to voluntarily return.
Another 35 people are also in the process of being sent back to their country of origin, he added.
Other people are still in the process of asylum, Camilleri said, whilst others are waiting for clearance from public health.
