Two Italian men were taken to hospital with stab wounds after a fight which broke out in a Marsascala apartment on Tuesday afternoon, the police said.

The two men, aged 52 and 37, were involved in a fight with two other persons who escaped from the site.

During the fight, a pointed instrument was used, the police said.

The two Italians were taken to hospital with grievous injuries.

The incident took place in Triq is-Sikka at 6.30pm.

The police later said that two men were arrested in connection with the incident. The arrests were made in Mosta and San Gwann.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is leading an inquiry.
