Former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has replied to Energy Minister Miriam Dalli’s criticism of the Nationalist administration using a quote from Joseph Muscat, who had praised its “vision”.
On Friday, Dalli had blamed the Nationalist governments – pre-2013 – for the problems that Malta is facing now, 10 years later, with regard to faults in the power distribution system.
Dalli spoke of the “disaster the PN left behind it” in 2013 for the current spate of power cuts that have hit Malta and Gozo, with Enemalta saying what was happening was a result of excessive heat.
In a post on Facebook, Gonzi, while praising Enemalta workers for their work to restore power in the affected areas, said he could not remain silent after what Dalli said.
Gonzi said that Dalli’s words are nothing more but more excuses coming from a government who had lost hope before the problems it had created.
An answer to Dalli comes from former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat who, at the inauguration of the interconnector between Malta and Sicily, in the presence of then Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, had praised Gonzi for his foresight.
Muscat had thanked his predecessor, Lawrence Gonzi, for having the vision to start and commit to the “ambitious” Malta-Sicily interconnector project. “He had a choice to make. He made the right call. Credit goes to him,” Muscat had said, adding that he was sure Dr Gonzi faced opposition when he decided to take on the project that would link Malta to the European electricity grid”.
