The Labour Party has approved three new candidates for the European Parliament elections taking place in June 2024. The elections take place every five years.
The candidates approved by the National Executive of the Labour Party are Dr. Marie Elise Agius, Dr. Daniel Attard and Dr. Marija Sara Vella Gafà.
Dr. Marie Elise Agius (left)
She is 36 years old and graduated from the University of Malta as a lawyer in 2011.
She began her profession as a lawyer in her own private legal offices in Żejtun and continued to work in various legal fields before the courts and tribunals of Malta.
She also worked as a legal consultant for private entities, an experience which she attributes as having helped her develop negotiation and communication skills. She also previously volunteered with the Victim Support Unit before starting her career.
Dr Daniel Attard (centre)
He is 31 years old and graduated from the University of Malta as a lawyer in 2017.
Until 2021, Dr. Attard served the community of Mtarfa as Mayor after he was elected for the first time in 2013.
During Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Dr. Attard gained experience in the International Labour Organisation within the United Nations.
He previously held the post of Deputy High Commissioner of Malta to the United Kingdom, and served some months as Chargé d’Affaires.
In recent years Dr. Attard has also served as spokesman for several ministries, with his most recent appointment being with the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs.
During his studies, Dr. Attard also worked as a journalist in the ONE newsroom.
Dr Marija Sara Vella Gafà (right)
She is 27 years old and graduated from the University of Malta as a lawyer in 2019.
She is currently the Mayor of Gudja after being elected in 2019.
Vella Gafà has been active in the association of the Labour Youth Forum since 2011 and in 2017 she was an executive member of the association. In recent years she was also the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of the Labour Party.
She has been involved in internships and training programs about the European Union. She also served as Liaison Officer during the Maltese presidency of the European Council in 2017.
Vella Gafà also worked as a lawyer with the Lands Authority.
