The architect who is among five to be charged with the involuntary homicide of Jean Paul Sofia appears to have transferred a substantial amount of money and properties in the weeks after the incident, a magisterial inquiry has found.

In her report, published by the government on Wednesday, Magistrate Marse-ann Farrugia said that Whatsapp chats showed that architect Adriana Zammit was transferring "substantial amounts" of money and property.

The chats were derived from Adriana Zammit’s mobile with a certain ‘Christian’ from 3 January 2023 onwards, found in the expert report compiled for the inquiry by Keith Cutajar, “which indicate that Zammit started transferring a substantial amount of money and immovable property to third parties, and was also seeing how to dispose of her money.

At this stage this is not in itself a crime, the magistrate observed. But this fact may possibly be relevant in the future, in the eventuality that a person or persons are confirmed creditors of Zammit in connection with this incident, as from the chats there are indications that Zammit did this to stultify the rights of potential future creditors. So in the future, Zammit’s actions can, if it is the case, be investigated separately, for one to see if they constitute a crime of fraud, the inquiry says.
