The Government “would rather attack the Nationalist Party in a partisan matter” instead of addressing the anomalies within the pensions framework “for those born before and after 1962”, said the Nationalist Party (PN) in its response to the Labour Party (PL)’s press conference on Tuesday.
The PN went on to say that it is ready to implement a pensions package which would “address the injustices that Labour is unable to address even though it has been in Government for ten years”. It said that a new PN government would see to it that the 70/30 mechanism currently in use for pensioners born in the year 1962 and onwards would apply to all pensioners.
The PN said that the Labour Government is supposed to have already dealt with this issue due to the reform having to be reviewed every five years, “and while the Nationalist Party has been offering solutions, Robert Abela’s Minister (referring to Michael Falzon) today was only able to say that he is still going to see how he will begin to address this anomaly.”
The PN concluded its statement by saying that it is continuing to demand for real solutions as our pensioners deserve better, and that the people and our country need a solid leadership with a clear sense of direction, as opposed to the Government of Robert Abela, “who has lost his compass and does not have his hands on the helm of the country.”
This statement was issued by David Agius and Paula Mifsud Bonnici, Spokespersons for Social Policy and Active Aging respectively.
