The paving of a road in Gzira will continue during Santa Marija week so as to eliminate the inconvenience that the project is causing to residents as quickly as possible, the Public Works Department said.

The paving of Manoel de Vilhena Road was halted for a time when the contractor, J Construction Limited, had informed the Works Department that the company was experiencing difficulties in obtaining the necessary raw material.

J. Construction Limited had won the tender some months ago, but was in a position to complete the Carlo Manche Street part of the project only, as another contractor was carrying out separate works in Manoel de Vilhena Street.

The work in the latter street has now resumed and will continue next week even though, normally, such contractors are on shutdown for the holiday. The raw material needed has been received, too, the department said, and it is hoped that the project is completed in the shortest time possible.
