A total of 27 voluntary organizations are set to embark on a new cultural project through the Artistic Financing for Feast Associations Scheme, receiving a commendable total of €140,000 in support. This initiative, under the capable administration of Arts Council Malta within the Ministry I am responsible for, represents a profound commitment to nurturing, preserving, and enhancing our beloved cultural traditions and the Maltese festa in particular.
First and foremost, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to these dedicated associations whose tireless efforts contribute to the creation and design of the enchanting artistic decorations that grace the streets of our localities during the festive season. Their passion and unwavering commitment infuse life into our celebrations, connecting us deeply to our roots and shared history.
The underlying objective of the Artistic Financing for Feast Associations Scheme is to not only sustain our cultural foundation but to also provide it with the resources it deserves. This financial support goes beyond mere monetary aid; it extends to nurturing creativity, fostering learning, and enriching our cultural landscape with a multitude of projects and activities. In essence, this scheme lays the groundwork to ensure that the legacy of our cultural heritage is not only maintained but also strengthened for generations to come.

More than just financial backing, this program represents a commitment to the growth and sustainability of these organizations. Through a meticulous process, the beneficiaries of this scheme were carefully selected. To be eligible, organizations needed to be enrolled with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations. Each project underwent rigorous evaluation by Arts Council Malta, which scrutinized both the technical and artistic aspects, ensuring that the funding was allocated in a manner that maximized its impact.
As we move forward, the impact of the Artistic Financing for Feast Associations Scheme will undoubtedly ripple through our communities, enriching lives and connecting us to our roots. L-Għanja tal-Poplu
I had the pleasure of meeting with the talented winners of the 47th edition of l-Għanja tal-Poplu and celebrating their remarkable achievements. It is truly inspiring to witness the success of this festival, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated organizers and participants who made it all possible. This festival was a collaborative effort with Pjazza Teatru Rjalu and received invaluable support from the Arts Council.
L-Għanja tal-Poplu holds a special place as a platform for showcasing original songs that emphasize the beauty of the Maltese language in both lyrics and music. During this festival, artists are free to express their thoughts, emotions, aspirations, and experiences related to modern Maltese society, as well as their own personal journeys.
This year, a total of 142 songs were submitted, demonstrating the immense interest and enthusiasm of artists in creating and performing songs in the Maltese language. This is truly heartening, and we are committed to fostering and promoting this enthusiasm. I would like to extend my appreciation to the media for consistently featuring high-quality Maltese language songs, as well as to local venues and councils for incorporating Maltese language musical talents into their celebrations. I'm also grateful to everyone who is actively promoting our vibrant Maltese musical scene.
The songs presented this year covered a diverse range of themes:
The winning songwriter, Jean Claude Vancell, captured the essence of the festival with his song "Monochrome." This song, with both lyrics and music by Vancell, was born during a time of solitude, and it speaks to the risks he took to add color to his life. The monochrome, a metaphor for the experience of depression, also carries a message of hope as it illustrates how a person can find beauty in life with the support of others.
Lon Kirkop earned recognition for addressing a pressing social issue with the song "Għadu Ma Sarx," performed by Kelsey Bellante. This song sheds light on the harsh reality faced by individuals dealing with domestic violence, telling the stories of victims and those around them.
The song "Katina," performed by Laura Bruno and written by Paul Ellul, with music by Mark Spiteri Lucas, secured a well-deserved third place. The song focuses on individuals with special needs, highlighting the shared humanity that unites us all.
"Meravilja," a touching song performed by Mark Spiteri Lucas and Debbie Scerri, with lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss and music by Mark Spiteri Lucas, claimed the second spot. "Meravilja" is a poetic reflection on life's beauty, especially when one learns to appreciate and overcome challenges.
The grand prize-winning song, "Il-Baħħ u Jien," interpreted by Christian Arding, with lyrics by Natasha Grima and music by Natasha Grima and Charlene Grech, delves into the sensitive topic of suicide. The song draws from a true story and conveys the struggles of a man grappling with emotions he finds difficult to express, seeking understanding and support.
I am pleased to announce, that we will be undertaking the creation of a music video for "Il-Baħħ u Jien." This endeavor will be facilitated by Arts Council Malta.
I would like to also express my warmest congratulations to the winner of this year's Malta Junior Eurovision. Yulan Law is the winner of this year’s edition. This is the fourth time Law has taken part in the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She will now represent Malta in the final of the Junior Eurovision, scheduled to be held in France on the 26th of November.
