LESA official was drugged by her colleagues in sexual assault attempt, Arnold Cassola alleges

An alleged sexual abuse attempt against a LESA worker by two of her colleagues has been reported to the police after a complaint filed by independent candidate Arnold Cassola.

Cassola said on Sunday morning that he had initially sent a complaint to Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri – under whose remit LESA is – who then forwarded it to the police for investigation.

Cassola said that the alleged attempt happened a year ago.

He said that according to the allegation, a female LESA officer on probation was given a pill by a Regional Enforcement Officer and an Inspector, after which she was taken to a nearby field where they tried to have sex with her. However, the woman resisted.

He said that, allegedly, the high echelons of LESA knew about these allegations and ordered an inquiry “which has been kept hush hush.”

“In the meantime, the woman involved has been sacked by LESA (she was on probation) because she was caught not wearing a seat belt,” Cassola said.

In his email to Camilleri, Cassola asked for the conclusion of the inquiry, and in turn Camilleri forwarded the email to the police and told Cassola that such allegations should have been reported directly.

Commenting on the action to be taken by the Police and on the Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa, Cassola said “we know how it goes. If these two are not politically connected, maybe we get an investigation. If they are politically connected, forget it. We'll see.”
