The Nationalist Party is accusing parliamentary secretary Andy Ellul of making use of public funds to promote himself. Such adverts should be personally paid for, the PN said in a letter to the Standards Commissioner, requesting an investigation.
As from Saturday 28 September, an advert has been appearing on Facebook, paid for from public funds, promoting Ellul.
This is yet another case of an ethical and legal breach by a Labour parliamentary secretary.
MPs Karol Aquilina and Ivan Castillo have written to the Standards Commissioner to investigate.
Andy Ellul, in response, said that through its actions, the Opposition wants to remove the government’s right to lead the country.
“We saw it on Monday, when it didn’t even want to even allow the government honour its obligation to make a ministerial statement in Parliament. What arrogance.”
"Now, coincidentally,” he said that Karol Aquilina on Monday “went to report me to the Standards Commissioner.”
“His excuse? That a film regarding the announcement of the National Workers of the Year award on the Facebook Page Djalogu Soċjali, in which we encouraged that people be nominated for this award, where we recognise the hard work of Maltese workers in every sector of life. We were the ones who created the structures like the Standards Commissioner, yet the PN and its friends want to use them so that they would stifle our work. We will not let them. Our work will continue strongly in every sector.”
