“I welcome the Data Protection Commissioner’s decision to launch an investigation into the abusive use of private data to discriminate against Maltese and Gozitan citizen,” PN MEP David Casa said at the European Parliament.
“What the latest scandals reveal is the hijacking of government entities by Labour Party fixers and operatives who use personal data in their possession for the purpose of systemic and widespread discrimination,” stated the PN’s Head of Delegation David Casa in the European Parliament.
Last week, MEP Casa called on the Data Protection Commissioner to investigate the misuse of personal data following the publication of correspondence that revealed how taxpayer-funded Labour Party operatives checked the political allegiances of citizens and their family members in the process of determining what assistance they should be given.
This morning, Casa was notified of the Commissioner’s decision to launch an ex officio investigation.
“It is crystal clear that the treatment of citizens by this government has become directly dependent on how Labourite they are. It is shocking to read exchanges such as that of ‘f*** him... only his mother is with us’, as well as checks that were made on family members of private citizens so as to take account of the political leanings of the entire family in deciding what treatment a particular person should be given.
“Needless to say, these practices are not only testament to the moral abyss that is today’s Labour Party in government, but they are also illegal.”
Casa said he will support the investigation in whatever way it is deemed necessary.
