Daphne Caruana Galizia must be recognised for what she is: “A Maltese hero” and a “servant of the Maltese state”, Repubblika President Robert Aquilina said during an activity on Monday.

The activity was held on the sixth anniversary of what Aquilina described as “the blackest page in the recent history of our country” during which a “brave journalist was assassinated by the mafia in Malta.”

Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed exactly six years ago – on 16 October 2017 – by a car bomb close to her home.

Aquilina continued by saying that he is convinced that Malta is yet to reach a point where the future leaders of the Labour Party will recognise Daphne as a hero and condemn the “leaders and labour politicians who facilitated the climate of corruption and impunity which led people to feel comfortable in killing her.”

Aquilina said that Repubblika’s fight is “increasing in strength, allies, and entities of goodwill”. He said that an alliance had started a year ago with Fondazione Falcone, which he explained was founded by Maria Falcone and Giovanni Falcone, “The most famous people in the world who are renowned for having fought the mafia.” He described the alliance as a great honour.

He declared that a collaborative agreement was signed on Monday morning between Repubblika and Fondazione Falcone. He said that this agreement will include the establishment of sections within Palermo and Roma Bolzano museums which will be dedicated to Daphne. He added that this agreement was done in agreement with the Caruana Galizia family.

Aquilina said that Repubblika will be making financial contributions to the museum initiative through donations on the following site: https://fundrazr.com/GhalRepubblikaNadifa

The Repubblika president continued that the work of art "Il Risorto da Combattimento" will be loaned to Repubblika for one year. He said that an agreement was reached with the San Giljan Local Council which will have the work of art hosted in Pjazza Balluta. “I thank Mayor Guido Dalli and his fellow councillors”, he said, adding that they accepted the agreement immediately.

He said that this agreement is an “important and significant step”. Aquilina added that Repubblika wants to collaborate with those parts of the Maltese state which are “of goodwill” and that it wants to collaborate with politicians who are “sincere in their commitment”. He said that this initiative will get Repubblika and Fondazione Falcione’s message closer to the people.

“I encourage Maltese and Gozitans of goodwill to join us tonight at 7PM for the demonstration for truth and justice”, he said, “We want to send a strong message of determination, we will win this fight.”
