Fifty-two police officers are currently suspended because criminal proceedings have been taken against them, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri told Parliament.
Camilleri was replying to a parliamentary question submitted by his Nationalist counterpart Joseph Giglio.
Camilleri did not identify the types of crime that the police officers are accused of.
There is one member of the Civil Protection Department and two Armed Forces of Malta officers who are also suspended because of an alleged crime.
