LESA and the police have issued a total of 10,943 fines with regards to e-scooters in 2023, with 2,954 fines issued in Sliema alone, and 2,137 issued in St Julians in the same year, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed.
In reply to a parliamentary question posed by PN MP Albert Buttigieg who asked how many fines both LESA and the police have issued with regards to e-scooters in all localities, from 2019 to this day, Camilleri tabled the fines issued from 2020 up till 2023.
Buttigieg also asked how many of these fines have been paid up till today, but Camilleri’s provided information did not specify.
The locality which saw the highest number of fines issued in 2023 was that of Sliema, followed by St Julians. Fines issued in Sliema increased over the past three years, from 1,275 in 2021, to 2,954 in 2023.
Fines issued in St Julians also increased over the past years, with a slight decline from 2,161 in 2022, to 2,137 in 2023 thus far.
The locality which followed the two in terms of fines issued was that of Gzira, with 749 fines issued in 2023, followed by St Paul’s Bay, with 626 fines issued. Msida followed with 607 fines issued, whilst 513 fines were issued in Birkirkara in 2023.
There were 482 fines issued in San Gwann with regards to e-scooters, followed by 401 fines in Marsaskala. Valletta saw 306 fines issued in 2023.
