PN says government clueless on what’s going on at Enemalta

The Nationalist Party said that the government is clueless as to what is going on at Enemalta, expressing concern that this could be to the detriment of the energy sector.

Two months ago, a PN statement said, the party had asked the government to confirm or deny reports that executive chairman Jonathan Cardona had been sacked following the problems encountered in the energy distribution system in the weeks before.

Malta had suffered a string of prolonged power cuts, which the government attributed to the rising summer temperatures.

At the time, the PN statement said, Minister Miriam Dalli had denied the story, but yesterday the government announced that a new chairman has been appointed. This means that what the party was saying in August was true.

It also means that Minister Dalli was lying, did not know what was happening at Enemalta, or had lost control.

This also confirmed that Prime Minister Robert Abela had understood that responsibility had to be shouldered following the July power cuts. It also confirmed, according to the PN, that Abela had lied when he said hot temperatures had led to the extensive power cuts.

The statement was signed by energy spokesman Mark Anthony Sammut.
