Introspection is Rebecca Cassar's more recent exhibition of abstract artworks. A celebration of colour, indicative of the artist's introspective conversations, represented through vibrant colour, voluminous texture and pure gold.
Cassar's various intrapersonal conversations over the past year are here seen to culminate in a boisterous, energetic and positively charged body of works. Rebecca notes that her fascination with abstract stems from a need for free expression in an otherwise structured and form dictated world. To her, colour and texture allow for movement and flow in a journey that captures moments through time. Rebecca explains that for her, abstraction is the highest form of emotional and rational representation of the world. She perceives abstraction as a merger of thoughts and feelings and snippets of important moments in her life journey. There is a strong sense of positive energy emanating from Rebecca's current body of art works. Her recurrent use of 23.5 karat gold leaf, as a form of expressing her innermost thoughts and sentiments, remains a consistent thread throughout her body of works.
The artist's keen fascination with gold and its delicate yet everlasting nature, is mirrored in Introspection, with the greatest use of gold leaf, to date.
She explains that the use of gold is representative of rebirth and renaissance and is a recurring theme within her works. Rebecca uses gold leaf as a visual juxtaposition of the glimmers of peace in moments of anxiety, and the bursts of calm experienced when losing herself in the nostalgia of time spent with family and friends.
Rebecca is a Maltese artist who from a young age, has had a burning passion for the arts. Rebecca has always been most content with a paintbrush in her hand and the occasional blob of paint in her hair.
After pursuing a career as a lawyer, Rebecca finally had the courage to chase her dreams. She has embarked on a journey of self-discovery, which has led her back to her roots - the love of the arts and all that is creative.
She is happily dedicating a significant amount of time and effort in building her portfolio of art works. Her abstract pieces fully exhibit her love for colour; adopting techniques such as impasto which further reflect her journey of self-exploration.
Introspection is Rebecca's second solo exhibition being held at 59, Strait Street, Valletta from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. The exhibition will run until 29 December. Her works can be viewed by appointment.
