Former Opposition Leader Adrian Delia was handed the health portfolio in a shadow Cabinet reshuffle that was announced by the Nationalist Party on Saturday
Delia, who was given transport, mobility and capital projects as a responsibility when the shadow cabinet was appointed in 2022, was instrumental in the court case he instituted for the return of three public hospitals to the public, with court rulings rescinding a deal signed by the government in 2015.
One week after Prime Minister Robert Abela announced a Cabinet reshuffle, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech carried out a similar exercise to change the responsibilities of a number of his MPs.
Delia was one of many MPs who has seen his responsibilities changed. Stephen Spiteri, who was shadowing the health ministry, is now the spokesman for social policy.
Among other changes, Mark Anthony Sammut is now responsible for transport and mobility, leaving the energy sector to Ryan Callus, who is also responsible for research and innovation.
Joe Giglio has been moved from home affairs to infrastructure and capital projects, with the home portfolio now falling under the responsibility of Darren Carabott, who remains chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. Carabott was previously also responsible for local government, which has now been given to Chris Said.
Claudette Buttigieg is now responsible for broadcasting, taking over from Graham Bencini who is now the spokesman for finance.
Bencini took over from Jerome Caruana Cilia, who is now entrusted with the economy portfolio.
Ivan J. Bartolo, who was previously the spokesman for the economy, is now the spokesman for employment.
Ivan Bartolo has had the pensions sector added to his social housing portfolio.
Rebekah Borg, previously responsible for lands, now takes over the environment sector. The lands sector has been passed on to Stanley Zammit.
Eve Borg Bonello remains responsible for climate change but now also takes on public cleanliness.
