A new police station has been inaugurated and has begun operating in Marsascala.

The Ministry for Home Affairs said that this station was specially built according to the needs of the local police officers and community. It continued that this emboldened presence along with community policing means that the police force has the biggest presence it has had in many years.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà said that this station was built with an investment which exceeded €700,000. They said that this project forms part of a series of renovation work being carried out in police stations across Malta and Gozo and that this project complements the ongoing community policing work which now also has a designated office within the new station.

Camilleri said that whilst the police force continues to operate hand in hand with the community, the government will continue to invest in the workers of the disciplined forces, in the tools they use, and in the maintenance of order. “In this way as a government we are continuing to strengthen this very important service for our communities,” he said, adding that this is being done in various localities around Malta and Gozo where the government is “launching these types of investments directly in the safety of the community.”

Gafà said that this new police station is part of a holistic plan which recognises that the quality of the work environment is essential both to continue to increase the motivation of employees as well as to provide the best possible service to citizens who need the service of the police. He continued that the police force is committed to continue improving the buildings with major renovations from which it operates.

Marsascala Mayor Mario Calleja was also present for the inauguration. He praised the work of the district and community police in the Marsascala locality and expressed satisfaction with the new police station.
