Over 13,000 vehicle roadworthiness tests have been conducted by authorities in the last three years, data tabled in Parliament on Monday shows.

Nationalist MP Adrian Delia asked Transport Minister Chris Bonett if there is any difference in the roadworthiness test for domestic and commercial vehicles. He further asked how many people within Transport Malta are “adept” in regard to vehicle testing and what qualifications they have.

Minister Bonett replied that there is no difference in testing and that there are currently eight individuals in Transport Malta who deal with this. He continued that two are qualified as VRT testers and that four individuals received training on ‘dangerous goods’ from a local engineer. He added that two others were recently added to the section and will receive specialised training in the near future.

Delia asked the Minister how many tests were carried out during the years 2023, 2022, and 2021.

Bonett answered that 4,176 inspections occurred in 2021, 4,065 in 2022, and concluded that 5,189 took place in 2023.
