The Head of the Malta Enterprise micro-enterprise unit Kevin Camilleri as well as Malta Enterprise board member Victor Carachi on Thursday have confirmed their resignation to Economy Minister Silvio Schembri following the public inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia.

Their resignations followed those of the Chairman of the Malta Enterprise Peter Borg and the Chairman of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) David Xuereb, after they were singled by the board of inquiry in the report.

Schembri on Thursday said in Parliament that he had spoken to the highest officials under his merit in detail with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

He said that the most important things to consider following the inquiry’s report is the immediate action taken, as well as identifying who needs to bear responsibility, as recommended by the inquiry.

Schembri said that he received and accepted resignations from the head of the micro-enterprise unit at Malta Enterprise, as well as board member Victor Carachi.

With regards to collaboration of Malta Enterprise and INDIS, Schembri said that a representative of each entity will be present on the board of each.

He said that as soon as the land is released, it will return to INDIS and converted to a garden in honour of Jean Paul Sofia. Schembri continued that an auditing company will be engaged to audit Malta Enterprise and take action on the findings.
