Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes announced that over 1,800 first-time property purchasers in 2023 have already sought the €10,000 grant disbursed over a decade.

This initiative, part of the Malta Flimkien electoral manifesto, aims to support new homeowners. Reflecting on the previous year, Minister Galdes highlighted that more than 2,800 individuals who took the significant step of buying their first home in 2022 have received their first instalment of €1,000 as part of this scheme and will receive the second of ten payments this year.

“This year, starting from June, first-time property purchasers from last year will receive their initial €1,000 instalment, part of a decade-long support scheme,” Minister Galdes said.

The Minister emphasised that this grant, which forms part of several diverse schemes administered by the Housing Authority (HA), represents a significant investment in our families and youth, “who are at the forefront of our country’s economic success.”

Minister Galdes added, “a key economic advantage of this initiative is the contribution to our country’s homeownership rate, which stands at 82% – among the highest in Europe.”

“As the Housing Authority, we remain dedicated to investing in the aspirations of young Maltese individuals specifically, their goal of homeownership. We are deepening our understanding of this crucial sector through ongoing data analysis and research. We are also pleased to announce that, in line with our promises, the payments for this scheme will be reissued in June,” HA CEO Matthew Zerafa stated.

First-time buyers who purchased a property in 2023 and who have not yet applied for this grant should do so no later than the end of April by visiting https://bit.ly/Għotja10K.

Permanent Secretary Emanuel Psaila was also present for this press conference.
