An abandoned rabbit and dog who were found curled up together were rescued at the Chadwick Lakes Trail last Wednesday.

The Malta Ranger Unit Facebook page said that a ranger, together with Althea Galea from NGO Vuci ghall-Annimali, rescued the abandoned pets within less than 30 minutes from the sighting.

The Malta Ranger Unit said that the animals are now in safe hands, after being found curled up together and were retrieved from within the valley.

The animals will now be checked for injuries, and if they remain unclaimed, will be rehomed by Galea, the post read.

“Abandoning a pet is a crime. Please be a responsible pet owner! A reminder that it is also by law to chip your dog and attach an ID tag on its collar,” it said.

“These two were seemingly dumped together, since they took shelter together and were in a state of shock,” the post read.

The Malta Ranger Unit appealed for more collaboration with NGOs as the way forward, and thanked Galea and all dedicated animal activists for their work.

Vuci ghall-Annimali meanwhile have asked whether anybody would be interested in adopting the duo together.

On Wednesday, Animal Welfare Organisations also rescued 27 dogs after they were found in terrible conditions.
