The Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA) has funded an €80,000 embellishment project which will improve the locality of Għajnsielem, Gozo.

A government statement said Thursday that the implementation of improvement projects in Maltese localities funded by the LESA agency and Local Councils have continued.

The project in Għajnsielem was inaugurated by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, and the Mayor of Għajnsielem Kevin Cauchi.

Camilleri highlighted how in just three years, LESA has financed around €3 million for various projects in the Maltese islands aimed at benefiting various communities.

"In a few weeks, we will also announce those projects which were presented by various Local Councils and which will be financed by LESA funds, where we will continue to invest in projects that improve the quality of life of our communities," Camilleri said.

Minister Clint Camilleri explained how this project replaced the promenade into a new one, with several benches and reconstructed rubble walls.

"This is how our Councils are enhancing areas that are not only in the village centre, but also the most beautiful places we have around the Gozitan island," Camilleri said.

The improvement works stretched over half a kilometre and included the widening of the pavement to accommodate new benches and additional space for the road, trees, decorative lights, mosaic designs, a small library, and an increase in ramps for better accessibility.

The project also involved the construction of traditional rubble walls as well as better management for parking. The goal was to create a new and open space for the community to enjoy while achieving various social and environmental aims, the statement read.
