Transport Malta denied allegations that two high officials of the agency are under investigation following theft of fuel.

In a statement Friday, Transport Malta said the allegations made are unfounded and untrue.

Earlier Friday, independent candidate Arnold Cassola said that two high officials in Transport Malta are being investigated on suspected theft of fuel at the Maritime sector in Transport Malta.

It is alleged that these officials filled up their private cabin cruisers with fuel from the fuel station at Mgarr Harbour, Gozo, Cassola said.

This alleged fraud was discovered when Transport Malta received an 850 euro bill for diesel, the candidate added.

This rang an alarm bell since the maritime vehicles used by Transport Malta run on petrol and not on diesel, he concluded.

In a statement later, Transport Malta said that following a reconciliation exercise carried out by our Finance Department, to date, Transport Malta has never received an invoice that amounts to the mentioned amount of 850 euros
