Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech on Wednesday called upon Prime Minister Robert Abela to sack Edward Scicluna from his role as the Governor of the Central Bank of Malta (CBM).
Grech stated that Abela has the obligation to remove Scicluna from his post, and that he should take this action “if he truly wants to safeguard the integrity of the Central Bank and the country’s economy.”
Grech published these comments on social media after Scicluna was facing criminal charges following the conclusion of the magisterial inquiry into the hospitals deal, which saw three public hospitals passed on to be run by the private sector.
“The Governor of our Central Bank is accused of being part of the biggest fraud our country has ever seen,” Grech said. “Since Edward Scicluna does not have the decency to do what is expected of him, Robert Abela has no other choice but to remove him.”
The must be done if Prime Minister Robert Abela truly wants to preserve the country’s reputation, he said.
