Repubblika deplores ‘unpresentable’ Edward Zammit Lewis nomination as EU Court Judge

The NGO Repubblika has denounced Edward Zammit Lewis’ nomination to be a judge within the European Union’s General Court, calling the PL backbencher “unpresentable” in its statement on Thursday.

“The nomination of Edward Zammit Lewis for the position of judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union is an undeserved reward for one of the pillars of Joseph Muscat’s corrupt establishment,” Repubblika stated.

The civil society movement referenced the 2021 findings that uncovered Zammit Lewis’ ties with Yorgen Fenech – including the now famous “Ġaħan” comment.

Repubblika also added Fenech is also the person to have allegedly ordered for the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Repubblika also stated that Zammit Lewis was one of the government ministers who was deemed “politically responsible” for the murder of Caruana Galizia by her public inquiry and that he had defended the institutionalised corruption of Muscat’s government. The NGO also noted that Zammit Lewis had labelled this institutionalised corruption as “Muscatonomics”, “as if theft and bribery were some admirable innovation.”

“Edward Zammit Lewis is unpresentable for public life and instead of the ‘cushy job’ award he should continue to be excluded from public life, as above all his electors have already excluded him,” Repubblika stated.

Its statement was concluded by criticising Prime Minister Robert Abela for this nomination. The NGO wrote that through the presentation of such a nomination, “Robert Abela makes Edward Zammit Lewis’ political crimes his own, and renews the shame brought upon our country by the ministers of Joseph Muscat.”
