PN MP Ryan Callus said that Energy Minister Miriam Dalli must immediately halt the Montenegro windfarms deal, as the former Enemalta Chairman Jonathan Scerri said this deal was not in the country’s interests.

In a statement on Tuesday, Callus said that Scerri has agreed with the position of the Nationalist Party, and when questioned directly by PN MPs Adrian Delia and Karol Aquilina, Scerri admitted that the Montenegro windfarms deal was not in the interest of the country or the company.

“The Nationalist Party has long been saying that this deal was not in our country's interest,” Callus said.

He said that additionally, an internal report conducted by Enemalta also confirmed the serious shortcomings in this deal, including government-appointed members on the Enemalta Board who were found to lack the necessary competencies and experience for a board of such an entity, but were appointed solely for political purposes.

“In the past months, it was also revealed that while the windfarms in Montenegro were purchased for €3.5 million, Enemalta actually paid €10.3 million,” Callus said.

He said that Dalli had continued to hide behind the fact that she already sent the report to the Police, washing her hands administratively, despite being responsible for Enemalta.

The Nationalist Party reiterated that Dalli should immediately stop the deal.
