The Commissioner of Police should provide the necessary protection to PL MP Chris Fearne and his family, in addition to continuing investigations in relation to the frame-up reports, the Speaker of the House of Representatives ruled on Tuesday.
Speaker Anglu Farrugia said that the Parliament clerk shall also pass on a transcription of the ruling to the Minister of Foreign Affairs so that it could be passed on to the relevant embassies (including the US Embassy) to act on the situation involving the smear campaign reportedly enacted by Steward.
The Speaker said that in an earlier session, Fearne had referred to three articles reporting on the issue.
Fearne had said that these articles, published by the Times of Malta, Boston Globe, and the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, showed in a detailed manner that a frame-up had been organised against him involving the expenditure of €6 million.
Furthermore, Fearne requested for the Commissioner of Police to continue investigating the source of the frame-up in light of the articles, and he requested for steps to be taken according to the law.
