An 86-year-old man was injured in a hit-and-run in Mosta on Monday evening, police said, with the alleged culprit being arrested soon after.

Police said that the incident happened at around 5pm in Mosta’s Constitution Street and preliminary investigations showed that the 86-year-old man, who is from Mosta, was riding a Peugeot Tweet scooter when he was injured in an incident with a vehicle.

Police said that by the time they arrived at the scene, the vehicle had left, but some minutes later officers found the vehicle – a Toyota Cami – in a garage close-by.

The motorcyclist was given first aid by a medical team and then taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance where he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Cami – a 75-year-old man who is also from Mosta – is being held by police in connection with the ongoing investigations into the incident.
